Florida Bird Life: 5 Beautiful Birds to Look for This Winter

In tips, Uncategorized by Atilus Developer

The human ‘snowbirds’ aren’t the only ones flocking down south for winter! Here are 5 beautiful birds you’ll usually only spot during Florida’s winters:

Bald Eagles

Florida is a wonderful place to raise a family— just ask the Bald Eagle! Bald Eagles make the trip down to Florida in the winter to breed and raise their young. Each winter, photographer Dennis Goodman makes the most of the time with these ‘snowbirds’ by capturing them enjoying Florida’s winter sunshine. You can view a variety of Bald Eagle photographs taken by Dennis Goodman in his Florida nature photography album “Birds of Prey.”

Swallow Tailed Kites

If you are a little late to winter bird watching — not to worry! You can still catch the Swallow-Tailed Kites in Florida all the way through Spring. These majestic birds are full of acrobatic tricks and are incredibly fun to watch in flight!

White Pelicans

Brown Pelicans can be found year-round in the Sunshine State but the White Pelican is a species you’ll only find during Florida’s winters. This bird’s wingspan makes it incredibly impressive to see in flight. Their wings can stretch out to over 9 feet — making them one of America’s largest birds! You can enjoy photos of this impressive bird on Dennis Goodman’s Florida nature photography website.

Burrowing Owls

Burrowing owls are migratory everywhere but Florida. That means that these are a wonderful bird to see during the winter— but also the rest of the year in Florida as well! To get an idea of just how beautiful these birds are, you can browse through the Birds of Prey album on the Dennis Goodman Florida nature photography website.

Scissor-tailed Flycatchers

It’s a rarity but it is possible to catch a glimpse of a scissor-tailed flycatcher during the Florida winter! Usually found in Texas and Oklahoma, you are in for a real treat if you can spot one of these beautiful birds during Florida’s winter.
